Stone skipping
If you throw a stone with a flat surface on a lake or river, it may bounce off the surface several times: it dives into the water, jumps out again, and so on, until it finally disappears in the water.

It one of the games that doesn't require anything but nature and some practise: stone skipping. Once you learned it, it's a lot of fun!
- Find a calm lake or river, if possible, without waves
- Find a flat stone
- Put the stone between your index finger and thumb
- Throw the stone as closely as possible over the water surface, such that it only touches the surface. When doing so, try to rotate the stone such that it gets a horizontal spin (use your index finger to do so)
- If you have the right technique, the stone will bounce several times.
- Educational element: Explain the physics of stone skipping ;-)
Good to know:
- Stone skipping was already described by Homer in Ancient Greece.
- The world record is 40 jumps (Kurt Steiner, 2002).
Warning: Don't throw stones at people (e.g. in boats) or animals! Use small stones only! Be aware of the fact that stones bounce and might reach the other side or a river. The author doesn't take any liability for damages.
