Kids Chemistry - Fizzy Powder Fire Extinguisher

You need:

• Fizzy powder (or gring a effervescent tablet)
  
• tea light
• glass with a bit of water
• small spoon
  

Instructions:

• Put the tea light in the glass (there should only a bit of water in there so that it doesn't reach the flame)
• Put the fizzy powder into the water with the spoon

What happens?

After a few seconds the flame will go out. The flame needs oxygen to burn. The fizzy powder creates corbon dioxide when put into the water. The carbon dioxide will supersede the oxygen from the bottom of the glass, the flame has no oxygen left and goes out.
