Level: easy What you need: easy to get items
Keywords: trail mix, snack, school lunch, toddler

I go to the local everything for a dollar store for these items but you can find them just about at anyplace that sells groceries, you can substitue out the ingredients you don't like or add extras this is just a basic trail mix.

 Needed:

BIG mixing bowl

1 cup measuring cup

sandwich baggies to store leftovers

box of raisins (big box not the snack ones)

jar of nuts (any kind you like or try a mix)

dried banana peices

dried pinapple and/or mango

sunflower seeds

flavored cherios (honey nut, vanilla, banana nut ect)

Can also add: M&M's, yougurt drops (or the ones for toddlers), butterscotch, vanilla or chocolate chips if you want it sweeter.

Have little one dump 2 ingredients into the bowl, mix, then another and mix and so on. If you mix as you go it is easier then doing it all at the end.

scoop out 1 cup of mix into sandwich baggies and enjoy when ever you like!

You can have them do two 1/2 cup scoops or four 1/4 to teach them about measuring food. Explain what each ingredient is and why it is good for you to teach them nutritional values.

Terrific for an on the go snack, add to a lunch instead of fruit snacks or pudding, I throw a few in my bag when we go to the zoo, mall, or are running errands. When my kids start complaining they want a snack while we are out and we aren't going home anytime soon... I give them these and avoid the extra cost of stopping at a convience store, fast food, or grabbing something where ever we are. You can even make this for a young toddler out of some of the gerber graduates items. just make sure that whatever you do whith any of this it is all DRY ingredients, and kept in an airtight container or baggie and stored in a cool dry place like you would the original contents in their packaging.
