Category: Nature Time frame: ten minutes
Age: 3-10 years Where: outdoor
Level: easy What you need: everyday objects
Keywords: Bird House, Styrofoam,

Need:

*2 Styrofoam bottoms from meat packaging (like chicken breasts or ground beef) Soak in antibacterial cleaner (NOT bleach it will eat the styrofoam) rinse clean and dry before letting kids touch it.

* Box from garbage bags (like the one hefty bags come in) Should already have hole if it was opened on the premade preforations.

*paints

*Knife (FOR PARENTS ONLY!)

* Wire coat hanger

*duct tape

Step 1: Paint or decorate the bottom sides of the styrofoam and the sides of the hefty box if you like.

Step 2: Slit the bottom of the box in the middle across the skinny part and about 1/2 inch at the end of each cut.

Step 3: Palce the wire hanger into the slit and tape over the cut to keep it in place.

Step 4: Tape the styrofoam to the top and bottom of the box to a make the roof and the tray at the bottom. Make sure the hole in the hefty box is against the bottom tray.

Step 5: Hang outside and sprinkle bread crumbs or bird seed on the tray. Sit back and quietly enjoy bird watching!

***** Make sure you grab a camera! Its fun to make a "bird book" with the kids too! Print out your pics and tape or glue them into the book with a description and fun facts about each different type you spot!
